Why us…Why now?
This is the Way is lifestyle that culminates at the intersection of career milestones, loss, reflection, and dreams. Life is difficult for everyone. To be successful you need to be willing and able to alter your position and perspective radically if necessary to overcome obstacles rather than waiting for life to determine your path for you.
If you know me, you know I like doing things myself. I like knowing things. I like learning things. I like challenging myself. All of this came to a head after the pandemic, a career change, a PhD, and the loss of my mom and way too many others in a short period of time. I decided to take my mother’s advice and not wait for someone else to make it happen knowing I can do it for myself. Retirement is at least a decade away, and working for myself sounds like a great idea. I’m more than qualified and eager to grow my business my way. I’ll post more about my new business venture soon.
Bryan, my husband, spent a decade in the U.S. Coast Guard as a boatswain mate mastering line handling, navigation, weather, and small boat driving to name a few. He’s also a graduate of the Diver’s Institute of Technology and qualified to perform inspection, maintenance, and repairs underwater. He is the one you want by your side when you put your heart and soul into a sailboat and want to keep it in great condition. He’s also the one you want doing passage planning and other research and detail oriented learning. Sometimes I love his OCD.
Between the two of us and our blue heeler, Xena, we made the bold decision to sell the home we built, buy a 2008 Hunter 49, shift our life to tiny living, and sell or donate nearly everything we own.
Why? We want to live in the moment and experience life beyond the rat race and U.S. mainland borders. Life is way too short and we’re still young enough to go big or go home.
We’re going to try this cruising lifestyle thing for a while. We plan to head south fall ’25 after one more season cruising in Canada and the San Juan Islands of the United States. We’re excited and we’re ready to see what happens next. We invite you to come along on the journey with us. Everything is better with friends after all.
